On September 20, the Lady Cards played a triangular in Scottsbluff
coming up with the split. The game against Scottsbluff was a
game of highs and lows. The Cards beat Scottsbluff in the
second set because they played as a team and worked hard.
Brittney Rein said, "We lost out heads in the third set; we stopped
working together and communicating. There were mistakes on
the court that should not have been made." The team tensed up
in that third set. The game against the Bridgeport Bulldogs
ended with an exciting win. Rein summed the game in one
sentence, "We picked ourselves up, played hard, and won."
The tournament at Mitchell on September 22nd consisted
of two games for the Cards. The teams that the ladies were
matched up with were Hemingford and Bayard. The first game
was against Bridgeport, and the ladies lost. Tia Ferguson
said, "We didn't work hard as a team, we fell apart and could not
get back together." After a good discussion with Coach Matt
about the loss of the Hemingford game, the Cards came back strong
with the win over Bayard. The team simply came together and
worked as a team. As for the teamwork for the day Tia said,
"There is a lot we need to work on as a team. The game can
not be about just one person. As an example, we came together
in the Bayard game, and it paid off."
The Cards slowed down their season for a while by having fewer
games during the week of September 24th. The homecoming game
against Hot Springs ended the week with a loss. Kelsie
Lliteras said, "We are getting better as a team because of hard
work in the practices, but we get down on ourselves and make
mistakes." She mentioned that the team work is great, which
is what wins games. Also when the team talks they can bring
each other up when they are down.
The Cards came out on parents' night, October 4, and played
Scottsbluff, but ended with a loss. The Cards played as a
team, and had a lot of fun doing it. The first set, the Lady
Cards had a little problem with their communication. The
second set the Cards played pretty well over all, but the third set
the team struggled with their serves. Ashley Bargen said, "We
played like a team pretty much the whole game, and it was fun
playing like we did."
Next up for the Chadron Cardinals was Western Conference on
Saturday, October 6th. The day ended with the
record of 1-2. The Lady Cards beat Sidney, and Ashley Reisen
says that game was the best thing that happened. The losses
on Saturday were to Scottsbluff and Alliance. For the teams
faults Ashley Reisen said, "5-25." Other than this she had
nothing to say. 5-25 is a set that had been played against
Scottsbluff that the Lady Cardinals lost. Ashley Reisen said
this about the teamwork of the Cardinals, "We have one good game
where we look like superstars, and then we have a bad game and
can't get up. We just need to be a constant force, and we
will dominate." Ashley's last word was INTENSITY.
On Tuesday October 9, the Lady Cards played the Sidney Red
Raiders. The Cardinals came out with the win. The team
played really well together and had a lot of fun. The hitting
for the Cardinals was not a big threat, as it normally is.
Shelby Budler said, "Our teamwork was awesome, and it ended up
turning out for the best as we won."
In the Valentine Tournament on October 13, the Lady Cards had a
record of 1-2. The Cards lost against Cozad in their first
game. Amy Mitchell said, "We didn't really play as a
team. The amount of talk was low, and it really affected how
we played." The second game against Ainsworth was the win of
the day, and the last game against Valentine was the second
loss. "We picked ourselves up after the first game and played
much better," Amy said. The teamwork as always highly
affected the games. Amy said, "Our first game we didn't play
as a team, and it showed. We should have won that game, but
since we didn't play as a team we fell apart. Our next two
games we played as a team and things went much better." The
team ended the week with the final record of 8-13.
Coach Matt said, "The season has not been bad. We lost some that we
shouldn't have, but we didn't give it to them, we just were not
ourselves."
There are some
important games coming for the Cards. Coach Matt predicts
that the ladies are going to play well. "The triangular on
Friday, October 19, will be a good test of our team. The game
against Alliance on Tuesday, October 23 will be difficult.
They have beaten us a couple times, but we just need to
finish." There are many things that can affect a team whether
it is good or bad. As for the Lady Cards, Coach Matt said,
"The thing that affects us is the team chemistry. If we play
together we play well, but if there are six individuals on the
court we struggle. We have to play as a team."
The JV team is also well on their way. The JV record is
10-11. They have been playing pretty well overall. The
team would also like to mention their community service act.
On the way to a game in Alliance the JV and Freshman team helped
the Coca-Cola dealer pick up the cups that had been blown out of
his truck all over the road.
