On Friday February 8^th the Cardinal speech team traveled to North Platte.  After staying up all night at the Holiday Inn Express, waking up at 6:00 am was not easy.  Around 7:00 the team headed off to North Platte High School to compete at the second biggest meet of the year. 

            After walking in the doors about 40 other teams could be seen crowding around tables, practicing their speeches and everything seemed to be chaotic.  When a table was finally found, the first round began. 

A whole day was spent giving speeches, and by the time it was over the speechies were exhausted. 

However, for the Chadron speech team, all the hard work paid off.  When awards began, no one had any idea who the top 10 teams were that received medals.  Chadron's name was called and the excitement began.  After standing on stage for a while, the OID members started to get butterflies in their stomachs.  Finally it was down to two teams: Chadron vs. Alliance.  One team had the chance to be the best out of 33 teams; the other would only be second best.  Chadron came out on top!  The OID received 1^st place medals and bragging rights!  Congratulations to Hanna Raymer, Kailas Ledbetter, Megan Kizer, Kiya Stack, and Sara Smith.
