The Chadron High School blood drive was held on January 30th and
had a very good turnout. There were a total of 91 donors. The
Health Professions Club had a goal to beat Alliance's blood drive
in which they had 70 donors. Mrs. Hinrichs said that this was more
than what she had expected, she was not sure we would get that
many. Although Chadron's true goal was 97 donors, 91 was a great
success. The Health Professions club would have exceeded the goal
of 97 if it would not have been for people getting turned away for
physical conditions such as a heart problem.
Mrs. Hinrichs said that they best thing was seeing how many
students tried it for the first time. She said that it was also
good for the younger students to be able to see it, and hopefully
they will do it when they are old enough to. She hopes that by
having the blood drive the students will get used to donating and
will continue to donate through out their life. Overall the
students enjoyed it. Many of the students were scared, but now that
they have tried it, hopefully they will continue.
Many students said they would be willing to do it again. Chelsey
Foulk said she is willing to give her blood to anyone that needs
it. Tara Ledbetter said that she may take more time sitting down,
but she would do it again. Stuart Enos said that it was not bad,
and he got to sit next to Bill O'Boyle, so it was good.
Mrs. Hinrichs would like to make the blood drive an annual
event. She would also like to thank all the students and teachers
that donated, the workers that helped, the teachers that gave up
their rooms and the teachers that opened their rooms for other
classes to move to, the custodial department, Mr. Osborn for
allowing HPC to have the event, and everyone else that was
involved.
