The
definition of transitioning according to Webster is the process or
an instance of changing from one form, state, activity, or place to
another. We move into and out of transitions our whole life. At
CMS, the 4th graders transition in to CMS as
5th graders and the 8th graders transition
into high school as freshmen. We attempt to make the process
easier by providing a series of events for the 4th and
8th graders. Mrs. Smith and several Student Council
members have already made 2 visits to the 4th graders.
the first visit we share about the building, the different
schedules, changing teachers during the day, activities, and rules.
Questions are answered. We come back a second time with a new group
of Student Council representatives to help the 4th
graders work with the locks and Mrs. Kaus, our ISS staff person,
discusses the discipline
plan. More questions are answered.
On May 14th, the 4th grade students will
visit CMS period 1 to meet Ms. Miller and their teachers and do a
“walk-about” the building. We end up in their 5th grade
classrooms where any lingering questions are discussed. The final
transition piece is 5th grade and new student
orientation in the fall.
The 8th graders will have their orientation on May 13
from 12-3 at the high school. Pam Rogers and Carolyn Hinrichs have
a fun afternoon planned with sack lunch picnic, scavenger hunt,
Student Council presentation, and Mr. Osborn speaking to the
students.
Yes, transitioning is not always easy, but it is necessary. We do
our best to prepare your child for the next step in his/her
life.
