American Enterprise Project - FBLA
by Shelby Budler-FBLA Reporter
This year the Chadron FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) did an American Enterprise Project to teach local middle school kids about the Free Enterprise Economy. The theme for our Chadron chapter is ‘Pilot Your Way With FBLA’, which ties into the project that was chosen for this year. The chapter members went to the middle school and had three different classes participate in their project. With a presentation, vocabulary game, matching game, and paper airplane contest, the lesson of what a Free Enterprise Economy is and how it works was taught.
The paper airplane contest summarized the previous activities. The kids were split up into smaller groups. In this game the middle school kids used the vocabulary they learned to assign jobs such as production, management, marketing, and consumer representatives. The management made sure everyone was doing their jobs and created the name for the groups ‘company’. The production made paper airplanes in which two students had to touch each airplane before it was able to continue. Marketing made sure the airplanes looked good and kept track of the number of makes and misses through the hoops. The consumer representatives threw the planes through hoops. The hoops were different sizes and spaced a different distances from the throwers. This was to show the variety in consumers and prove that some companies have advantages while some have disadvantages.
Through the entertaining and educating games, the Chadron FBLA chapter hoped to create an exciting way to learn. The chapter members would like to thank Ms. Miller, the middle school principal, and Mrs. Harford for allowing our project to happen. Thank you to all that participated as well. You helped make our project a success!
