Kenwood Students Visit CSC Animal Collection
by Amy Gardner
The first grade class and both kindergarten classes from Kenwood Elementary School had the opportunity to visit the taxidermy animal collection at Chadron State College. The students from the three classes arrived at the Burkhiser building on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, 2009.
The students viewed 65 taxidermy mounts that have been donated to the college by Cabela’s. The collection includes animals from North America and Africa. Some of the larger animals in the collection are moose, elk, African lion, mountain lion, caribou, grizzly bear, zebra, and deer. Students and teachers alike now have a better understanding in regard to the size and physical characteristics of these particular animals.
After examining the animal collection, the students and teachers walked across the campus of Chadron State College to Memorial Hall. The group joined other students and staff from elementary schools, rural schools and the middle school at Memorial Hall. The cast from Chadron State College entertained the audience with the production of Once Upon a Mattress. The first grade and both kindergarten classes from Kenwood Elementary School certainly had an entertaining and educational afternoon on Friday, October 9, 2009.
