NOTE:  Thanks to Barbara Waugh, our rural schools participated in the Annual Quiz Bowl Contest for the very first time.

The Chadron Public Schools had two teams competing recently in the Great Plains Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl Contest.  The contest was held on November 18th, and 84 teams across the state competed. The teams representing Chadron Public Schools included students from Chadron Middle School, Prairie Home School, and Trunk Butte School.   Prairie Home students included Bucky Cattin, Corbin Johnson, Greta Welch, Alison Gardner, Aly Crow, Allie Johnson.  Participating from Trunk Butte were Walt Mays, Chance Snook, Chace Franey.

The contest is a  self-scoring, computer contest of 100 multiple-choice questions. Areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information and just plain fun trivia. It is meant to be a team activity with all takers around one computer. Two chances to answer correctly are given. Points are awarded based on how fast they answer as well as on accuracy.

The 5th grade team placed 5th in the 5th grade division.  They accumulated 1022 points with an accuracy rate of 88%.  Sixteen students participated on the fifth grade team.  The sixth grade team was comprised of 10 students who scored 1024 points to earn them at 13th place finish in the 6th grade division.  They had an 83% accuracy rate.
