Trunk Butte Enrichment Programs, aka the Explorer's Club!
by Dr. Tom Detwiler
NOTE:
Ann Krejci is a volunteer parent educator, organizing after-school
enrichment programs at TB.
Trunk Butte students have been participating in activities on
early-out Fridays this year again. The program started in
October with Chris Heiser of First Tee coming to the school to
teach the children golf on the playground. Chris has special
clubs and the children got to practice their swing and their
putting. It was a lot of fun. We hope to take the
children to the golf course this coming spring for more time with
Chris and golf.
Our latest activity has been Calligraphy with Tena Cook.
Several Trunk Butte students (and a few moms!) watched Tena write
and then practiced this beautiful lettering. We enjoyed
ourselves so much that we didn’t even notice when it was 3:00 and
time to go home! The student participants did a wonderful job, and
were able to write and display their names at the Trunk Butte
Annual Thanksgiving potluck Monday (Nov. 23)
night.
Next semester’s activities are still up in the air, but ideas
include chess, wheat weaving and possibly knitting. One idea for
knitting has been to make helmet liners for troops in Afghanistan;
for more on this project see the Sunday (November 29) edition of
the Scottsbluff Star-Herald. Also--we would love to find someone
who can teach the children cup stacking! If you have ideas,
know of possible volunteers, or would like to volunteer yourself
please contact Ann Krejci,mackrej@hotmail.com,
