Eunice Mandelko Honored

by Tom Detwiler

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Terri Haynes, CPS Board Member, delivered the following tribute to Eunice Mandelko at the 2009 8th Grade Graduation. For 28 years, Eunice served as rural school secretary to the Dawes County Schools.  During this time, she worked with seven different administrators and numerous teachers, board members, and parents.

"Tonight we honor someone who has done so much for so many.  Eunice coordinated many events and activities, including Health Day, Honor Roll, Track & Field Day, History Day, Spelling & Math Contest, and Graduation Day.  She cataloged and managed the Curriculum, Media, and Textbook libraries.  Student art work was displayed and exhibited under her supervison at the County Fiar.  She organized, copied, scanned, created, inventoried, laminated, bound, requistioned, compiled and filed.  Eunice always took a personal interest in the operation of the country schools.  I truly believe she is a primary factor in the preservation of the current country schools.  If they had not been operating efficiently  when the school laws changed, they would not be operating today.  Without her expertise and efficiency, administrators, teacherss, and board members would have been at a loss.  These are just a few of the reasons, we honor Eunice Mandelko tonight.  Eunice, thank you for your many years of devoted service to our rural schools."
