Q and U wedding.
by Danelle Burd & Kristin Moore
On Friday, February 26th, the Kindergarten classes at Kenwood Elementary performed the wedding ceremony of the letters Q and U. Attending the ceremony were quarterbacks and queens along with shushers with quiet signs. We also had a flower girl who threw quarters and a quilt boy who carried a quilt. The ceremony was performed by the honorable Lou Alcorn. Attending the wedding was the 1st – 4th grade. Following the ceremony all of the children were able to enjoy wedding cake and dancing. Fun was had by all!
This was a valuable and memorable learning experience for the kindergarten classes. They learned that Q is a quiet letter and only can make a sound when partnered with U. We as kindergarten teachers wanted our students to learn that when we spell and read Q always needs U. So they were united in marriage and forever they will be making the “qu” sound for eternity.
