Dear Parents of 3rd & 4th graders:
Third Session Clubs will begin on February 24th.   Clubs are activities that students choose based on their own personal interests.  Clubs will meet from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesdays. Third Session will be as follows:
Session Three:  February 24, March 3, March 10, March 17, March 24
Here is the schedule for 3rd Session:3rd SessionCRESTVIEW CREW (Students will walk to Crestview to interact with the residents there.  Crestview provides many different opportunities for the students such as crafts, ice cream sundae making, bingo, games, and Wii.  It is also an opportunity for students to serve our community and grow socially.  This was a very successful program last two years, and students enjoyed it.)QUILTING CLUB:  (This club is for 4th graders.  Lorna Eliason and Stephanie Codgill lead this group where students make a quilted pillow to go along with Nebraska History Study.  Mrs. Eliason will provide more information soon.  Students are bussed to the Middle School for this activity.  What a great opportunity!)CHEF’S CLUB:  (Jamie Goffena of UNL Extension Service hosts this club where students experience a variety of healthy cooking activities.)PALEONTOLOGY CLUB:  (This club is led by Barb Beasley of the USDA Forest Service.  She has lots of resources and hands-on experiences for students interested in Earth Science!)CARDS CLUB (Broadcast Journalism/Drama/Acting):  Mrs. Dickey, Mrs. Grant, and Miss Savannah will be leading this club where students will be creating and performing skits that will be video-taped to show to our student body demonstrating CARDS EXPECTATIONS (CARDS = Caring; Ambitious; Respectful; Dependable Students & Staff) The number of students participating in our clubs has been lower this year, so we will only offer five clubs unless we have too many, and then we will add Robotics Club again this session.
We have moved the Clubs up this year so they will not interfere with Girls’ on the Run as much.  Students will have to miss Club on the first night of Girls on the Run (March 10); however, Mrs. Rischling will excuse them from Girls on the Run on March 17 and 24th to finish out Clubs.
If your student attends CIA on club nights, it is important that they are able to stay the entire hour from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.  It would only be courteous and fair to all of these volunteers to be able to have their club members there for the entire time as some of the projects will be ongoing and build on each other.  Other times students may go on field trips.  Please respect this, and if your student cannot stay for the entire club, it would be best for them to be picked up by 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday club nights.  Academic/Homework time will be first on club nights.
This is our 3rd year of experimenting with clubs.  It is exciting to be able to give students an opportunity to choose the topics that spark their interest and the opportunity to explore different avenues.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,Mrs. Grant
P.S.  Remember it is never too late to sign up for CIA if your student is not a member.  Just get a registration from the office.
