Third Quarter in Review

Third quarter was a busy one in fourth grade.  Students prepared for and took the statewide writing test. Mrs, Swinney talked to them about NASA and helped them build and launch their own rockets.  Mr. Horst had them skyping with a class in Texas.  Flat Stanley, a character from a book by the same name, came to visit.  He belonged to Mrs. Piercy's nephew from Illinois.  He "helped" students take a math test.

Rocket Math!

Congratulations to Kolby Denke and Marlee Pinnt!  You have "rocketed" through their subtraction facts and made it to the Milky Way!

What is the Weather Like Outside?

Students discussed the weather with Chris Fankhauser recently.  As a self-proclaimed "Weather Nerd", she helped explain some of the "Terminology"  used in her job with 3rd grade students.  We are enjoying the current weather and hope to do without any more freezing cold.  Thanks Chris for visiting our classroom!

Paleontologist visits

Mrs. Hoffman's ClassroomWe have been studying rocks and fossils and last week we were lucky to have a visit from Barb Beasley, a paleontologist from the Forest Service, visit us and bring samples of fossils.  She talked to us about fossils and showed us samples of fossils found at Toadstool Park and other places.  She taught us about invertebrates, vertebrates, and plants that can be found in fossil form.  She showed us a model of a giant pig's skull that lived in this area millions of years ago.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Mrs. Anderson's class started a PenPal project this year where they wrote letters to a group of students somewhere in the US.  They told their penpals about themselves, facts about Nebraska (without mentioning we were Nebraska), and then asking questions they wanted to know the answers to about their penpals.

NeSA Writing Celebration!

Mrs. Piercy's ClassroomFourth grade students took the Nebraska State Writing Test last week.  Much time was taken preparing for this test, and the students worked hard as they applied what they had learned on the actual test.  On Thursday, we had pop and popcorn to celebrate their hard work.  Everyone agreed that hard work, done well, feels good!
