2nd Grade "Bump Up" Day

Our Chadron Primary 2nd graders went over to Chadron Intermediate for their "Bump Up" Day and were very excited for what is to come.  The third grade teachers, students, and Mr. Cogdill were very welcoming and our students had many of their questions answered.  It is always a nice way to bridge the two buildings and we wish our students well as they move on to 3rd grade.

Retirement Celebration

Chadron Primary School hosted a Retirement Celebration Thursday, May 4th for some ladies who will be greatly missed.  These women have put in many years of service to Chadron Public Schools and we are very excited for the next adventures in their lives.  We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend the party and wish these gals well.  Best wishes and we look forward to your return visits to share all of your fun!

Daisy Troop Flower Planting

Friday afternoon Ms. Becky's Daisy Troop was busy earning their gardening patches at the Primary Building.  The girls volunteered to help brighten up the elementary school by planting a variety of flowers in posts outside.  Thank you to Ms. Becky and the Daisy Troop for making Chadron Primary look so great!

Thank You

Chadron Primary staff would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the individuals and families that recognized our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.  The goody bags, donuts, and various treats brightened our days, thanks again!

Teacher of the Month - Mrs. Hudson

Mrs. Angie Hudson (Kindergarten teacher) was recently awarded Teacher of the Month honors.  This award is sponsored by Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District as well as Eagle Radio (KCOW, Double Q Country, B 94.7, and Panhandle Post).  A gift basket and treats for Mrs. Hudson's class were also provided by Ta-Da Quilt Shop and Art Studio.  Mrs. Hudson has been an amazing teacher with Chadron Public Schools and we at the Primary Building wish to congratulate her in this well deserved honor!

Current Kindergarten Students - NO SCHOOL - Friday, May 5th

Primary Families, please remember this Friday, May 5th there will be NO SCHOOL for our current Kindergarten students.  This is the date our incoming Kindergarten students will visit for their "bump up" day.  Thank you!

2nd Grade Multicultural Project

The second graders at Chadron Primary hosted a multicultural event this last week as a culminating activity to their multicultural project.  The students in each of the four classrooms split into groups and researched various countries.  They created tri-fold presentations including postcards, important information about the countries, and landmarks as well as salt dough maps of the countries.  The students also brought food from the various countries and enjoyed trying different cuisine.

Thank You CSC Football Players

Chadron Primary would like to extend a HUGE thank you to coach Jeff Larson and members of the CSC Football Team.  They took many hours out of their busy college schedules to volunteer in our Kindergarten Read Naturally Lab.  They had so much fun they often came to school early to visit recess.  Mrs. Hoffman and her Reading group celebrated these volunteers with an electronic book the students helped to create and donuts!!  Thank you again volunteers!

Passport Adventure

International Field Trip without Leaving the Building
The second graders helped create an international travel experience for first graders within our building.  Working in groups, second graders were assigned a country and conducted research.  There was a lot that went into the researching.  Students asked questions and located answers.  Students looked for information about language, clothing, food, holidays, the national flag and other interesting facts.  Their final projects consisted of a tri-fold display and salt dough maps.

Earth Day Clean-Up

Students from Chadron Primary School partnered with Keep Chadron Beautiful to learn about recycling and keeping our community clean.  Classrooms were given missions to promote environmental care and the culminating activity was to clean up around the school buildings.  Thank you Keep Chadron Beautiful for sponsoring these activities and educating our students about the care of Earth.

Book Tasting

To save students from “reading ruts”, the first book tasting was developed for students to "taste" something new.  Instead of feasting on pizza, students were feasting on nonfiction, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mysteries, science fiction, poetry and folklore. How do you “taste” a book? Students received a "menu" for logging their experiences and observations.

We hope to see you!

We will be hosting a Native American Parent Meeting Tuesday, May 9, 2017.  The meeting will be held in the Central Office of Chadron Public Schools and will begin at 3:30 p.m.  We look forward to visiting with you about the education of our Native American students.

Excitement in Mrs. Cogdill's Classroom

We have had an exciting few weeks in Mrs. Cogdill's second grade class.  On April 3, 4, 5, we welcomed 16 baby chicks into the world.  After anxiously waiting for 21 days they finally appeared.  We learned a lot about life science and watched the development of the new baby chicks for 2 and a half weeks.  Our high school FFA animal group came and taught us many things about the chicks.  We appreciated them. The chicks went to their new homes with three second graders.

Last Date for Library

Dear Parents,

With the quickly approaching last day of school, our last checkout in library is going to be May 4th.  We would appreciate it if we could get all library materials returned or paid for by May 4th.  We will be starting our inventory May 5th.  Thank you in advance.

First and Second Grade Spring Music Program

Once again Mrs. Dickerson and her music classes did an AMAZING job of performing.  The first and second graders delighted the audience with their Spring Music Program on April 11th.  The first grade classes did their program about flowers and the second grade classes featured all different types of bugs.  The students worked so hard on memorizing lines and songs and should be congratulated on a job well done.  A huge thank you to all of the work Mrs. Dickerson and her students put into this program as well as the classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, Mrs.

Chicks

Mrs. Cogdill's 2nd grade classroom has had a few new additions over the past two weeks.  The chicks have hatched and there is a great deal of excitement in the room.  They had a total of 16 chicks and all are doing well.
